„Love is not a victory march,
it is a cold and a broken hallelujah.“

Leonard Cohen

Nothing compares to love, to fall in love, Amor’s arrow. Is it a sickness no one knows to cure, or is it a remedy, „the only engine of survival“? No wonder love is one of the main subjects in literature. But why is love almost absent in anthropology? Social scientists are obsessed with gender-issues, but love itself seems to be either too banal or too intensive as a theme. In this seminary we are going to have a close watch at some literary and ethnological works, between western and non-western, subjectiv and objectiv, emic and etic, artistic and scientific perspectives. We will focus thereby on the question of universal and culture-specific aspects of love, which means to embed love in its social, historical, economical and religious contexts.
